I think i deserve a good break.. something to soothe my soul (if there is one..) and clear my mind before i go back to joining the work force.

So this is how April is going to be like..

Ack! Ah Huay reads my blog!

Received an SMS from Ah Huay today thanking me for mentioning her in my top ten list. Always thought she was too busy (either with work or making babies) to read my drivel..

You win..

The old man has been given his freedom. He now has his license to smoke and drink himself into a heart attack or another stroke.

If and when that day arrives.. he's on his own.

Getting by on good memories..

It's been a very stressful week. I could go into details of the happenings of the past week but the entry would be very long and wordy. Besides, i would rather not be reminded of all the frustrating moments.

What i will post are 10 of my favourite memories that help me get by during these troubling times..

1. Events which occurred in 2003 which are too personal to say :)

2. Having a relationship with a girl in California whom i met online (we had sex in her office.. heh heh).

3. California.

4. Samuel Adams (Summer Ale) beer from USA.

5. The waters and sunsets of Maui.

6. Window seats on flights to far away destinations.

7. The climbing trip to Krabi.

8. Working as a diver at Underwater World.

9. My mountain bike.. who happens to be residing in Maui now.

10. Someone long gone nicknamed 'Ah Huay'..

Gasp!

Never thought i'd find myself using one of these 'aunty' like devices when i'm marketing. Was actually struggling with it on the way home!

The old way was much too painful..

Magical glow..

At a certain time each day in the late afternoon, the sun will shine directly into my bedroom.

And because the linens in my room are red, a reddish glow will be cast everywhere..

Do i talk funny?

Twice within an hour, 2 people asked if i'm a local (a bank clerk and a supermarket lady). I know i definitely do NOT look like i'm a non-local so is it the way i speak? Maybe i should try to put some singlish in my conversations.. lah.

It's been a year!

This was the very day one year ago when i started blogging. Funny how it's main purpose was to tell my friends about my experiences in California. And when i returned.. i just couldn't stop.

I wish i could go back in time and start living from 10 March 2005 again.

Walking again.

The old man actually walked without his walking stick today. A vast improvement from a month ago.

Charlyn..

I know it's still a little too early to compliment her, but so far, i'm really impressed with her. She sure has initiative. I told her that her primary role here are to look after the old man and cook our meals. Housework is secondary.

As the old man is not discharged yet, it's hard to actually come up with a schedule for her to follow. I was planning to observe his daily habits and routine and then slot in a time for her to do a little housework (eg : when he takes a nap). My brother and i have been observing her and she's actually doing the housework without us having to tell her to. She even folds the plastic bags used for trash!

I'm really thankful for her initiative (i've conveyed this to her) as i'm very very bad with household stuff so can you imagine me giving instructions to someone else how to do housework?

We've also worked out an arrangement on how to do the shopping for food to cook. We'll go to the supermarket together. I'll then tell her 'Ok, you think about what you would like to cook for the next 4 days, go pick out the stuff you need and i'll just follow behind with the basket'. I have been eating hawker food for my whole life and i get so totally lost when i have to shop for stuff to cook. How the hell do i know which fish is fresh?! So it's reassuring to see her going around picking the foodstuff without me having to teach her how to do it.

On another note, i had to leave her at home last tuesday for a while as i was going rock climbing and my brother was not home yet. She being new, i was uncomfortable at leaving her alone but thought, i 'd have to start trusting her sooner or later. I showed her where the spare housekeys were and left $10 on the shelf telling her that it was 'emergency' money it case she needed anything urgent. When i returned at about 12am, i discovered that the money was gone! I was a little bothered as i didn't expect the 'emergency' to happen so soon! And there wasn't any change? Was she up to something?

However, the next morning, when we left the house for the hospital, she gave me the change AND a receipt for the cooking oil and ginger she bought. She was supposed to cook for my brother and had discovered that we had run out of cooking oil and ginger.

I hope my impression of her doesn't change..

Is it defective..?

I was rummaging through my wallet today and discovered... this!

The packaging was all sticky as the lubricant had leaked out.

So this leads me to my question.. does a tear in the packaging also reflect the quality of the product inside..?

Natural born killer.

Was at Climb Asia today when the youngest resident cat brought in this half dead lizard.

The poor thing was struggling to crawl away but Coco (the cat) kept pawing at it and biting it.

I then brought it outside, hoping that it was still able to survive.

Upon closer inspection, i realised that it would not last very long. There were deep bite marks in it's body and it's hind legs were completely useless.

Shortly after this picture was taken, i smashed it against the floor. I decided that a quick death would be what was best for it. I then placed it in a nearby flower pot, telling it that it's body would provide nutrients to the plant.

Unfortunately, that was not to be. Coco found it soon after and brought it's carcass in and started playing with it.

I must say.. it was morbid, yet fasinating, watching this cute little cat playing with the carcass as though it doesn't have a care in the world..

NooOOooOOooOOoo!!

Something really freaky happened this afternoon. My dad's wife's friends came over to our house (the baby was discharged today) to visit them. I had met one of them yesterday. She was the prettiest of the lot but seemed 'gatal' (cheeky) to me. So she was here today with another woman whom i had not met before.

My brother and Charlyn left to send my dad back to the hospital at around 5.00pm. His wife and friends followed them downstairs as the friends were going home too. Then about 5 minutes later, the home phone rang. Normally, i do not answer the home phone as all my friends call me on my handphone. But seeing how the baby was in the hospital, i thought perhaps this could be a concerned friend or relative.

When i answered the phone, the conversation went like this :
Me : Hello?
She : Hello, is this Norman? (indonesian accent)
Me: Yes, who is this?
She : I am Ira's (dad's wife) friend. I like you..
Me : ...

As you can probably imagine, i was stumped! What the fuck was going on?!

So i asked out of curiousity..
Me : Why do you like me?
She : I like you..

Then she hung up.

Suspicion tells me that it's the gatal woman. If it is, i'll be really freaked out.. because she's MARRIED!! And according to my dad.. to a POLICEMAN!! Images of headlines splashed in the Newpaper about a jealous policeman shooting dead his wife's suspected lover (ala one-eyed dragon style) flashed across my mind. Of course, i'm not that stupid (or desperate) to actually want to do anything with her. I so wanted to tell her.. 'Your black voodoo magic ain't gonna work on me bitch!'

I hope she doesn't get a hold of my handphone number..

Pain in the ARSE!

To cut a long story short, the above summarises how my dad was during the (emotionally draining) weekend. Because he was denied his cigarettes again, he started to show some attitude.

Thank the gods for Charlyn. Because if she wasn't around to look after him, he's gonna feel my backhand!

Hospital touring circuit.

I must be on some sort of hospital touring circuit. January - Hospital in Batam, Tan Tock Seng and Ang Mo Kio Hospital. February - Ang Mo Kio Hospital. March - Ang Mo Kio Hospital AND Kandang Kerbau Hospital!! WTF! Dad's baby was hospitalised for fits and a lung infection. This evening, tomorrow and sunday, spend at KK hospital with my dad!

I'm really getting freaking sick of hospitals! And the children's ward at KK ain't exactly fun. Babies crying practically at every corner! ARGH!

Well, i guess there's no point in bringing dad home while the country bumpkin and their child is at KK..

Her arrival.

Brought Charlyn home today. As expected, she was shy and a little nervous i guess. Who can blame her.. i was nervous too! I tried to get her to talk a little more but she either gave curt answers or 'yes sir, no sir' answers.

She's pleasant looking enough. No missing eyeballs or doesn't have an extra nostril or anything like that.

Showed her her room and gave her time to unpack and settle down before i gave her a short tour of the house (macam like very big). Then we talked about her roles & responsiblities, rules & regulation (don't touch my beer etc) and my dad's condition. I can't help but think that i was not very thorough. These past 2 months seem so unreal and i guess i find myself having to deal with situations which are very new to me. *Sigh*.

Viola!!

Complete at last..!

I hope Charlyn likes it.

$18.00 for a 'quickie'.

I was at the nearby neighbourhood shops buying lunch and some other stuff when i happened to walk by this massage place. It has always been there but i never took note of it. So today, i thought maybe i'll just have a peek at what the rates are like. $18.00 for 20 minute upper body massage (head, neck, back and arms). Seemed reasonable, so i thought 'what the hell, just give it a go'. So i went in.

It was interesting. I had to sit in this special massage chair with my face on a cushion with a hole in it. It was okay i guess. As i type this, i'm still trying to decide if the massage actually do me any good! I do remember having thai massages in Thailand and they were certainly relaxing! Perhaps it's a different feeling when a man massages you!

Hmm.. that reminds me.. i'm due for another trip to Thailand soon.. hmm.
